Back to EyelinkToolbox Q & A overview
We get the message "cannot create edf file" or "could not write edf output"?
We just tried to install our new eyelink-2 and have problems while creating an edf-file on the host pc with the eyelink openfile command. We always got the message "cannot create edf file".
We use Mac OS 9.2.2 on the presentation PC, the eyelink version on the host PC is 2.11 ...
(this problem has been reported to exist for windows as well)
=Solution= There might be an error in the IP addresses. Apparently, the communication between host and Mac works, only the writing of the .edf files fails with IP-address errors. The solution is to enter the correct IP's on the operator PC (100.1.1.1) and the subject Mac PC (100.1.1.2). The problem is that everything works fine without writing an edf file, so it is not so obvious that this is an error in the IPs.
=Update= We just got our Eyelink 1000 and encountered the same message "could not write edf output" during our first tries, even though we were sure we had the IP's right. Curiously enough the issue seemed to have simply dissappeared. Unfortunately, we're not sure what we did to make it go away, but it most likely may have been a silly thing such as restarting the Host PC or the subject PC/Mac (perhaps even only Matlab). So, it may be worth to try such things if you still get this type of error message, even after correcting any IP numbers.
